  • Project 3 – Installing chrome hand control levers kit

    • Purpose: The levers kit on my bike was aluminium, which is not shiny, clean, and is easily oxidized; therefore I want to change it to chrome-plated one
    • How to do it:
      • Preparation
        • Retaining ring plier
      • How to do it
        • Disassembling brake lever
          • Use ring piler to remove the retaining ring, pull the pivot pin out then remove the brake lever.
        • Install chrome-plated brake lever
          • Slip the brake lever into its place, then align the chrome-plated pivot pin, then install the new retaining ring.
        • Disassembling clutch lever
          • Use retaining ring piler to remove the retaining ring, pull the pivot pin half-way out then pull the clutch lever, let it in that position, the pull the clutch cable in opposite direction, then slowly release the clutch lever, so that the core of the cable appears.
          • Still hold the cable, do not let it retract, pull the pivot pin all-way out. Now one hand holds the clutch lever, another hand hold the cable, move altogether so that the core of cable is situated in the gap, then pull all out of the position.
          • Remove the cable from the clutch level.
        • Assembling chrome-plated clutch lever
          • Assembling the cable to the new clutch lever, put the cable into the socket, fix the cable in the socket, pull the clutch so that the core of cable appears, move the clutch so that the core cable get through the gap and the clutch level get in place,
          • Align the chrome-plated pivot pin, then install the new retaining ring.
