Project 5 – Installing custom derby and timing covers

  • Purpose: The original derby and timing covers’ colour is black, so I changed to the chrome-plated one with more details on the surface.
  • How to do it:
    • Preparation
      • A T27 screwdriver, a new gasket for the derby cover
      • Lift the bike up straight so that oil in the primary chaincase would not leak out after removing derby cover
    • Installation
      • Derby cover :
        • Unscrew in order by T27 screwdriver. There would be 5 screws on edge of the circle shape, and are numbered 1,2,3,4,5 respectively. Remove the no.1, then no.3, no.5, no.2 then no.4. Pull the derby cover out.
        • Install the new derby cover with the new gasket, screw in order: 1,3,5,2,4.
      • Timing cover
        • There are only 2 bolts so remove both of them in any other, pull the timing cover and apply the new one in, then screw it in. (also using T27 screwdriver)
